Springfield-Branson National Airport’s restored general aviation terminal has been recognised with a leading industry honour, winning the 2025 General Aviation Project of the Year Architectural Award from the Great Lakes chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE).

The $6.7m project, completed in October 2024, focused on modernising the terminal that houses the Midwest Premier fixed-base operator (FBO).

Originally opened in 1990, the facility has long supported business and private aviation, but Springfield’s rapid growth created demand for upgraded services.

David Schaumburg, assistant director of aviation and project manager at Springfield-Branson said: “We weren’t looking for good; we wanted KSGF to be great for our corporate and private passengers.”

He credited Dake Wells Architecture and Nabholz Corp. with helping deliver the airport’s vision.

The renovation included high-end amenities and functional improvements, with the airport adopting a construction manager at risk (CMAR) approach.

This collaborative process allowed for a key material substitution that saved $1.1m without reducing the project’s visual impact.

Airport officials said the award highlights Springfield-Branson’s commitment to offering premium services for corporate and private flyers as the city’s aviation sector continues to expand.
